My name is Charlotte Kropholler and I am a photographer, born (1988) and raised in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. After my bachelor's degree in Art History at the University of Amsterdam, I studied at the Amsterdam Photo Academy. Currently I am living and working in Burkina Faso in West-Africa, the Netherlands and everything in between and around.

In the beginning of 2017 I flew to Burkina Faso on a whim for the Panafrican Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou. The initial plan was to stay for 5 weeks, but those weeks became 9 months. There, I am torn between the beauty, the magic and everything that results from the fact that Burkina Faso is one of the 5 poorest countries in the world. I am trying to find my way dealing with the responsibility I have as an imagemaker. What do I show you?

In the beginning of my stay I met an 11 year old girl at the swimming pool who couldn't swim, Mouniuque. I taught her how to swim and we became some sort of friends. Click here to see and read more about her.

While being in Burkina Faso I was inspired to start the sustainable and ethical clothing label 'A Thousand Blues'.

the curtains of my heart / are ravelling out / see-through are they becoming / by the rays of love / stronger than sunshine / until nothing is left / between me / my heart / and the world. While spending most of 2016 in Los Angeles and Vancouver, I took lots of portraits of women who wondered why I wanted to photograph them. They did not see themselves as I was able to see them. Like many things that happen in our lives, this outer experience was a reflection of my inner reality. This resulted in a book with poems and a few stories about the inter-dimensional relationship between, freedom, love, intimacy, vulnerability and the capacity to be truly who we are in connection with the world and others while uncovering the (limiting) believes many of us are accustomed to. Click here to buy one of the first fifty numbered and signed copies of my first book: ʼtimes new romance: the out-ravelling of the curtains of my heart.

Many women I asked to photograph couldn't really imagine that I really wanted to photograph them.  They were amazed that I had even noticed them walking down the street, doing groceries or sipping their coffees. Many of us feel like we are not special. But we are. You are. Are you longing to truly show yourself to the world?  Are you ready to change the way you see and feel about yourself? Are you a little shy in front of the camera? Click here to book a photoshoot with me to let me capture your magnificent beauty and to show you another side of yourself.
