My name is Charlotte Kropholler and I am a photographer, born (1988) and raised in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. After my bachelor's degree in Art History at the University of Amsterdam, I studied at the Amsterdam Photo Academy. Currently I am living and working in Burkina Faso in West-Africa, the Netherlands and everything in between and around.

In the beginning of 2017 I flew to Burkina Faso on a whim for the Panafrican Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou. The initial plan was to stay for 5 weeks, but those weeks became 9 months. There, I am torn between the beauty, the magic and everything that results from the fact that Burkina Faso is one of the 5 poorest countries in the world. I am trying to find my way dealing with the responsibility I have as an imagemaker. What do I show you?

In the beginning of my stay I met an 11 year old girl at the swimming pool who couldn't swim, Mouniuque (shown on the left). I taught her how to swim and we became some sort of friends. Click here to see and read more about her.
